Cubanito is a 6 or 7 piece band, dedicated to keeping Cuban music alive in the UK. Son, salsa and cha-cha-cha are the featured rhtythms, and authenticity is the aim! Also, as taste of "Timba" (the modern salsa of Havana). Formed in 1998, their funky style of arrangements of this traditional music owe their swing to their ex-bassist and arranger Rey Crespo, now no longer in the UK.

 

Musicians include:

Osvaldo Chacon: lead vocals, (Havana)

An experienced recording artist, he has appeared on albums with "el MEdico de la Salsa" and "Bamboleo". He has just released his own first solo album in the UK.

 

Jimmy Martinez: Bass guitar, (Havana, Cuba)

Bassist and band leader of Cuban band "Asere", Jimmy plays traditional rhythms with modern funky swing.

 

Marieta Veulens: Piano (Matanzas, Cuba)

While well-known in Cuba, she is buiding quite a following here in the UK. London;s top Cuban painist, she is classically trained and equally skilled in many genres.

 

Jesus Cutino: Vocals (Oriente, Cuba)

Up and coming young singer, who also plays "tres" guitar and bass, Jesus is both talented and quite a personality! More swing than you can imagine.....

 

Wilmer Sifontes: Timbales (Caracas, Venezuela)

A multi-percussionist, he is reknowned for his inspired performances and spirited solos!

 

Olly Savill : Congas (Portugal) or Dave John (UK - also band leader)

Both of these musicians is extremely experienced and much sought-after in authentic Cuban line-ups.

 

Paul Jayasinha: Trumpet (UK)

One of the UK's top all-rounder trumpeters, with immense swing, having played in Cuba with great musicians such as Frank Emilio Flynn - always the first to be called! A true master of Cuban and Brazilian styles.
